BCSA Tryouts - Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need to register or sign up for tryouts? Yes. Please register as soon as you can to streamline the process. Click here to be directed to the registration page.
What if we are away or unavailable for our selected dates? Contact the specific team coach or the travel coordinator for special circumstances, but ultimately the coach decides whether there will be a make-up tryout.
What age group will my child play this next year? A link for US Soccer's Age Group Matrix is below. The registration form will help select the correct 2017/2018 age-group based on the player's birth year. Players can play up to 2 years in the South Jersey League.
Is there a fee to try out? No
Who tries out? All existing BCSA players must be evaluated each year, along with any new players wishing to play on a BCSA team. BCSA has open tryouts for all age groups each year.
How long will try outs be? Tryouts typically consist of two, 90 minute sessions, but vary according to coaches.
What should a player bring to tryouts? Bring plenty of water; wear shin guards, and a properly sized and inflated soccer ball.
When will I find out if my child has made the team? Typically players will be notified of team placement status within 10 days of the last tryout date. Registration and payment to confirm your commitment of placement on the team will be required ASAP. Delayed payments may risk a lost roster spot. Some players may be placed on a waiting list for a roster spot or referred to another team if available.
How will the players be notified? Families will be notified of team placement by the team coaches.
Can parents stay and watch the try outs? Absolutely! But we do ask that you stay invisible. No cheering or coaching from the sidelines, please. The coaches will address the parents usually during the final 15 minutes of the second tryout session.
What if my child wants to play up at the next age group? BCSA has a play up policy. Contact the specific coach for player evaluation.
